Installation Faqs

Q: How to choose an air conditioning system for the house?

A: To choose an air conditioning system for your house, you will need to:
1. Decide on the areas that require air conditioning.
2. Determine the cooling capacity required.
3. Determine the types of air con that you want.
4. Consider your budget.

Q: How do I determine the air conditioner capacity required for my room?

A: For a quick estimation, we can use the rule of thumb:
Area (Length x Width) X 65 = BTU/hr
E.g. Room size 10ft X 10ft = 100ft2 X 65 = 6,500BTU/hr.

Q: Which air conditioner brand is better and causes fewer problems?

A: Although there are many brands of air conditioner in the market right now, they have similar function. Every brand has a few air conditioner models that they are good in. There is no particular brand that we can recommend which is better than the rest. One very important point to note is that the installation of the air condition plays an important role when it comes to having problem like water and gas leaking. With good installation, the occurrence of these problems can be kept at a minimal level.

Q: What is an inverter air conditioner?

A: An inverter air conditioner uses an inverter circuit to regulate the rotational speed of the compressor to match the output of the compressor to the cooling pump load. This reduces the number of times the compressor stops and starts as the load varies, so saving on electricity bills and reducing noise levels compared to non-inverter models.

Q: What is the difference between a window unit and a split system?

A: A window unit is a self-contained packaged air conditioner. All components are housed within the unit. It is installed through an opening in the wall and no inter-piping connection is required.

A single split, as it is called, comprises 2 parts that make up a system air conditioner: the outdoor unit (condenser) and indoor unit (Fan coil). The FCU is a cooling coil that cools the room, interconnection piping between the condenser and fan coil is required to run this system.

A multi-split unit consists of 1 condensing unit connected to more than 1 fan coil unit thus having the capability to cool multi rooms. The condenser can be a single compressor or multi compressors. Because of the design, single split and multi-split units are quieter than window units.

Q: How long is the air conditioner installation?

A: The normal HDB installation will take 1 full day. And for other property air conditioner installation will have to depend on the piping length. Generally, 1 fan coil per day will be a safe estimation.

Q: How long is the warranty period?

A: Most air conditioners come with ONE year warranty (parts & labor for repair excluding servicing) and FIVE years part warranty for compressor.

Q: What is the average life span of a residential air conditioner?

A: The average life span of an air conditioner is about 6-7 years, but it can be prolonged through proper maintenance by qualified technicians on a regular basis.

Servicing Faqs

Q: Why is the aircon operating but there isn’t any cold air (aircon not cold)?

A: The air conditioning system basically comprises of 2 sections. The indoor fancoil and the outdoor condenser. The indoor fancoil simply act as a blower to dissipate the cooling generated by the outdoor condenser. If there is no cool air blowing out from the indoor fancoil, the outdoor condenser might not be working. A qualified technician is needed to troubleshoot on the outdoor condenser.

Q: Why is the aircon leaking water?

A: A normal air conditioner will have water condensate in the indoor fancoil and discharge through a draining pipe to the nearest drain. Air Conditioner will start to leak water when the drainage piping is clogged / choked.

Q: Why is the room not cold enough even after the aircon been running for few hours?

A: There are a number of causes to this air conditioner not cold situation

Reason 1: The indoor fancoil is dirty resulting in weak dissipation of cool air.
Reason 2: The outdoor condenser is dirty resulting in incapable of producing cooling refrigerant.
Reason 3: There may not be enough refrigerant in the air conditioning system.
Reason 4: There might be some problem with the air conditioning system resulting in non-continuous operation of he system.
Reason 5: The desired operating temperature is set too high.
Reason 6: The air conditioner installed is under-sized.

Q: Why is the aircon not working?

A: One common reason is that the electrical power is not supply to the air conditioner. Perform an initial check on your electrical panel making sure that the electrical supply to the air conditioner has not trip. Upon confirmation of the availability of electrical supply, a qualified technician should be engaged to have the air conditioner repair.

Q: What is the advantage of regular aircon service?

A: Regular service of your air conditioning equipments will provide the following benefits:

Benefit 1: The air conditioner will cool better.
Benefit 2: The electrical consumption of the air conditioning equipments will be lower.
Benefit 3: Aircon leaking will be minimize.
Benefit 4: There will be less need for aircon repair.
Benefit 5: The air con equipment lifespan will be prolong.

Q: How often should I have the air con service?

A: n general, it is recommended that residential air conditioner is to be service and check every 3 months and every month for commercial air conditioner. The duration varies with different usage pattern and other environmental factors. Please seek the assessment of a qualified technician.

Q: Can I do my own air con maintenance?

A: The basic maintenance that is recommended is the cleaning of the air filter and outer panel of the air conditioner every 2 weeks. This will helps to improve the air conditioning of the room.

Q: Why is the air con noisy?

A: Noise is normally generated from

a. Vibration noise resulted from dirty indoor fancoil/ outdoor condenser.
b. Noisy draft resulted from dirty indoor fancoil.
c. Loose mounting of component in the air conditioning system.
d. Faulty parts in the air conditioning system.

Q: Why is the air con smelly?

A: The smell comes from bacteria formed by microbes in the warm dark humid environment in the indoor fancoil unit. Sometimes when the smell is very bad you may need a more intensive chemical treatment to rectify this problem.

Q: Why does the air con needs chemical cleaning / chemical washing?

A: Chemical overhaul/cleaning is a very thorough way of cleaning the air conditioner. When an air conditioner is badly clogged/ choked and a general service can’t improve the condition, an overhaul is necessary. In an overhaul, the air conditioner is dismantle part by part and chemically wash.
